Structural changes and carbon reduction due to habitat loss in Atlantic Forest

چکیده
Habitat loss is a significant threat to biodiversity in tropical forests, leading changes composition, structure, and function. In this study, we aimed evaluate the influence of forest amount at landscape scale on structure stored carbon tree communities. Eleven samples 36 km 2 (6 × 6 km), with different amounts cover (between 5 60%), were randomly selected within wide latitudinal range Atlantic Forests Brazil. We also used sample design control avoid some biases landscape-scale studies during selection, such as rescue effect from surrounding landscapes, differences matrix permeability each landscape, for same vegetation type or successional stage. surveyed all woody individuals diameter breast height (DBH) ≥ 2.5 cm eight plots 250 m , placed landscape’s forested areas. The structural variables evaluated were: total abundance, abundance prominent families, large trees (DBH 30 cm), mean DBH, average height, besides storage. From set 8,179 individuals, observed positive correlation between trees, stock. hardwood families positively correlated amount. When comparing two landscapes lowest proportion habitats (5–15%) highest (55−60%), almost one thousand more than 150 T per hectare are lost. This reduction overall indicates no compensatory effects community due turnover composition substitution smaller ones. Forest undergoing process homogenization functional collapse, derived directly indirectly habitat loss, possible regime shift.

Hearing Loss due to Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
Carbon monoxide poisoning is one of the rare causes of hearing loss which may cause reversible or irreversible, unilateral or bilateral hearing loss after acute or chronic exposure. In this report, we present a case of bilateral sensorineural hearing loss in a secondary smelting workshop worker after an acute exposure to carbon monoxide. This complication was diagnosed by pure-tone audiometry a...
متن کاملHabitat Complexity: Coral Structural Loss Leads to Fisheries Declines
Direct human impacts and global climate change are altering the composition and structure of coral reef habitats. These changes are simplifying size-abundance relationships of reef fish communities, reducing productivity through the system and ultimately threatening fisheries yields.
متن کاملLandscape Responses of Bats to Habitat Fragmentation in Atlantic Forest of Paraguay
Understanding effects of habitat loss and fragmentation on populations or communities is critical to effective conservation and restoration. This is particularly important for bats because they provide vital services to ecosystems via pollination and seed dispersal, especially in tropical and subtropical habitats. Based on more than 1,000 h of survey during a 15-month period, we quantified spec...
متن کاملEconomic Evaluation of Carbon Sequestration in Zagros Oak Forests (Case Study: The Pahnus Forest habitat, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province)
Examining the economic value of carbon sequestration in forests is essential, given the risk of global climate change, which has posed a profound challenge to societies internationally. The present study investigates the amount of carbon sequestration and its economic value in the oak forests (Quercus brantii L.) of Pahnus forest habitat with an area of 990 ha, located in Chaharmahal va Bakhtia...
متن کاملHuman-Induced Landscape Changes Homogenize Atlantic Forest Bird Assemblages through Nested Species Loss
The increasing number of quantitative assessments of homogenization using citizen science data is particularly important in the Neotropics, given its high biodiversity and ecological peculiarity, and whose communities may react differently to landscape changes. We looked for evidence of taxonomic homogenization in terrestrial birds by investigating patterns of beta diversity along a gradient of...
